Come Back to Me
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it, and I don't deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.
This song “Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury came to mind as God whispered these words to me, “Come back to Me.”
I was reminded of His love. It truly does chase after us. It goes into the depths in our darkest hours. And even the moments when we're up high on cloud 19. His love pulls us back if we desire to, if we can sense Him, when we're not bombarded by life circumstances.
You know, our thoughts can be so heavy. We can be consumed by a lot of the things that we're trying to comprehend, understand, break, work through, come to terms with, acknowledge, consider, all the things. And those thoughts can be so heavy and weigh us down so much that we don't have room to consider and think about God. No room to sense His love, hear, see and experience His love being demonstrated in and around us. We miss those moments.
And when we miss those moments, we miss the invitation.
God is calling out to us. He's asking for us to come back to Him. He's showing us just how much He loves us and wants us with Him.
But we must turn from our wicked ways, throw off what hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles us, and run back into the arms of God. (2 Chronicles 7:14; Hebrews 12:1a NIV)
Wherever you are in your walk and relationship with God, you can turn back to Him. He is right there waiting for you.
Jeremiah 29:12-13 New Life Version "Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will look for Me and find Me, when you look for Me with all your heart."
You ever walk away from a relationship or commitment then realize you messed up? You decide to reconcile but find they’re gone – number changed, social media deleted, and no longer residing at the address you last visited. They're unsearchable, and it seems they don’t wish to be found – by you.
But that is not the case with our Heavenly Father. He wants to be found by you. He loves you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3 NIV “The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” God is drawing you back to your first love.
This is the beauty of having a Savior, Lord, God, and King that is a constant. He's faithful. He's so considerate. He's so stable. He's still the same today, yesterday, and forevermore. (Hebrews 12:27-29; 13:8; Malachi 3:6)
Although you left Him, His love is still actively working to draw you back into His presence.
The times when our plans are abruptly interrupted, is not just ‘trouble knocking at your door’, it’s often God knocking at your heart’s door. It’s not always what it seems. Sometimes life challenges are divine disruptions that call your attention back to Christ. We may not always know the meaning in the moment, but if we yield to God, we’ll soon realize it was Him the whole time.
It was His love shaking up your life, arresting your heart, shielding you from harms way, directing your path and redirecting your faith back to Him.
It’s easy to spot God’s blatant attempts to grab your attention but what about those subtle ways God’s love chases you down – be it through a song, a message from a loved one, the kind gesture of a stranger, a sermon, a memory or even this email?
